Hans HaugHans Haug, Homme de musées une passion à l'oeuvre - du 9 octobre 2009 au 28 février 2010

Hans Haug’s strong, eclectic personality left lasting marks on the life and history of Strasbourg’s museums between 1919 and 1965. Especially renowned for his brilliant creation, the Museum Œuvre Notre Dame, he was also curator of the Decorative Arts Museum and the Fine Arts Museum, as well as a distinguished specialist of ceramics and 18th century Goldsmith’s art. He and A. Riff were equally responsible for founding the Historical Museum in 1920.

In 1946 he became director of the collective ensemble of Strasburg’s museums establishing them at the heart of Alsatian cultural life and largely contributing to their influence far and beyond regional borders.

This exhibition is broader way to evoke the historical and cultural contexts and major trends in museography dating from the first decades of the 20th century until 1960. On view in the Heitz Gallery at the Rohan Palace, the exposition’s six chapters offer a general introduction, both chronological and thematic:

A special itinerary visit is dedicated to him throughout six of Strasbourg’s museums (Museum Œuvre Notre-Dame, The Decorative Arts Museum, The Fine Arts Museum, The Archeological Museum, The Historical Museum and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art)
